The goal of any society (a construct of man by man for man) must be the long-term general welfare of all men. Capitalism hopes to forward the general welfare of man by coinciding self interest with general interest: a man forwarding his own welfare will forward the welfare of society by his production. Individuals produce in order to trade with others and thus every creates wealth and the diversity of wealth is increased. The functional goal of capitalism is expressed only in the individual: profit. Profit knows no limits and Capitalism imposes none. Yet the motive of profit allows gain by any means: criminal, deceitful and harmful included. government is a reaction to the willingness of individuals to further their private interest will decreases the overall welfare. Another motivation is needed in order for individuals to pursue production and innovation while not doing so criminally, deceitfully or harmfully. What might the motivation be?
