Fourth of July, 1997, a group fo us walk into the park to play volley ball and walk past a dead and half eaten mole. One of our group, Danny, is fascinated. He says that last week he and a friend had been discussing moles and looking them up in reference books.

We played volley ball and made obiesences to The Mole.

Next Friday, a friend suggested that I see El Topo, by Jodarosky(sp?). As I'm walking across the park in early evening, I see a small rodent come out of the tunnel I'm about to walk through. He obviously doesn't belong in the open air in daylight. I sit on my haunches and watch him for a while. He bares his fangs to try to scare me and I laugh. I walk on to the video store, get the video and walk home. At home, I pop in the video. The first scene is of a man in full black leather, on a horse in the middle of a desert with a small naked boy sitting behind him. They stop at the only stick anywhere for miles and get off the horse. The man tells the boy "Today you are seven years old. You are a man. Take this picture of your mother and your first toy and bury them here." The boy does so. The next scene in the movie are stills of a mole. The announcer says "The mole spends its life digging in the ground look for the light. When it finds the light, it is blinded. There are stills of the mole with red bloody "X"s on it to mean death.

I told the story to a friend yesterday. I walked across the park for coffee. Coming back I stumbled across a dead mole.
